My Argentine Diet

Hey, If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting! Jason

Argentina has the best food on the planet. Thanks to superior breeding, there’s no doubt they have the best beef on the planet. Thanks to irrigation from the Andes, their wine is consistently excellent. Their Spanish, Italian, German and Swiss food is arguably better than what you’ll eat in Spain, Italy, Germany or Switzerland (with few exceptions). If you love food, you’ll love Argentina.

Dinner:

Steak and Wine in Bariloche Argentina

The staples of my Argentine diet: Medallon de lomo (filet mignon) and Malbec.

Lunch:

Bike Ride Through Bariloche Argentina

Choripan... "Chorizo" + "Pan"

I think I need to take some cooking classes here.

First Rule For Gringos in Third-World Countries

If you’ve spent a majority of your life in first-world countries . . .

Colombia Salsa Congress 2009

When you break for lunch at the Colombian Salsa Congress . . .

Food in Belen, Medellin, Colombia

. . . don't walk into the nearby barrios when you're hungry. . . .

Food in Belen, Medellin, Colombia

. . . and eat food like this.

I think I’m adapting because I didn’t get too sick.

I think I’ll stick to what’s tried and true:

Tengo, Tengo Mi Chorizo Negro

tengo, tengo mi chorizo negro

How to Make “Zenu Superperro Hot Dogs”

Today I discovered a great afternoon snack (which in Espanol is called “el merienda”).   For the last 5 weeks in Medellin, I’ve been seeing Zenu meats in every grocery store.   It seems Zenu has established a monopoly over Colombia’s cold cut market.

Since I was unable to establish any connection between “Industria de Alimentos Zenu S.A.” and any evil forces, I figured it would be safe to make some Zenu Superperros for my “el merienda” today.

So I grabbed a pack of 10 superperros at the local supermercado:

Why “Superperros”?  Well, first of all, it says so on the plastic wrapper.

Secondly, I’ve now learned that anything good in Colombia is preceded by “super”.  For example:

“Super rico” = very delicious . . . both food and events can be delicious here

“Super chevere!” = very cool  . . .  probably my favorite expression in Espanol

“Super facil” = very easy

“Supertaxi” = my driver’s car (it says so on the back)

“Superperro” = very good hot dog… apparently

To make two Zenu Superperro Hot Dogs, you need:

  • (2) Zenu Superperros
  • (2) slices of Bimbo bread (fruticereal)
  • (1) slice of Colanta cheddar cheese
  • Mostaza (a South American attempt at yellow mustard)
  • Salsa de Tomate (ketchup)
  • Lime
  • Onion
  • San Jorge Salsa de Aji

All the ingredients, nicely displayed in my kitchen.

Mmmm… the smell of Zenu cooking in the morning.

Eat this…
